Caustic – photozine

Description

Under a blue sky the azure waters, shimmering in the sunlight, cascade over the blinding whiteness of the tufa terraces.  The vivid minerals pools on the outskirts of a famous spa town are the kind that feature in tourist adverts and Instagram posts.   The Pamukkale travertine terraces are deposited by natural thermal carbonate-rich springs where the Anatalya climate kisses the annual two million visitors.

By contrast the virgin white carbonate terraces that sit at the foot of a lime waste landfill in Derbyshire with their tropical blue waters are from an internet sensation.  Effectively the same formation process but you wouldn’t pose for a selfie in these waters.  At pH 13 it’s caustic.
